The Host

The Host (The Host, #1)Title: The Host
Author: Stephenie Meyer
Number of pages: 638
Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded hosts, and most of humanity has succumbed.
Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But she did not expect that Melanie would refuse to relinquish possession of her mind.
Melanie fills Wanderer's thoughts with visions of the man she loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she's never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.

My thoughts: A few trees could certainly have been spared. That story could have well fit into half the actual amount. The middle part just dragged on. For pages on end , nothing seemed to happen. At first I was drawn into this unusual world and a tad curious about the aliens. I began to lose interest quickly though. Also the characters Melanie, Wanderer and Ian drove me insane. I could stand of any them. It doesn't really help a book when the characters (especially the protagonist or protagonists in this case) irritate the reader so much that they feel like pulling out the pages just to get rid of them. However, I did like the overall idea. The ending was fairly good too. It's just a pity it didn't all work.

Movie Version: I haven't seen it but I do hope it is better than the book.

Wanderer played by Saoirse Ronan

I give this book two stars. Mainly for being unappealing and the descriptions weren't great.

Happy Reading!
