Friday

I got post/mail!

Hey Chicas! (what language is that anyway?.. Spanish is it?)
One of the best things in the world, in my opinion, arrives early (usually) in the morning. A man drives up your drive way in a little van. In Ireland we call him the fear an phoist. You might know him as the post man. ----or post woman. Would that be bean on phoist then??
Alright my point is I received post (mail) yesterday!!!!
And it wasn't the one from the dentist either.
I got a book!!

And I must send all my thanks to Amy and her wonderful blog
I came second her latest competition, making her a blog button!
Here's mine:
and another one I made but didn't like as much:

And the winner was Jasmine from her awesome blog Ebony Black Lines
Love that one.

That's all for now!

Do You Believe?

There are many different religions out there, in this crazy world. And it wasn't until I joined blogger that I noticed these. I saw some bloggers were fasting for a month due to their religion while others have barmitzwahs coming up. I, myself am Catholic. I've been baptised, communicated and confirmed. I do go to mass often, almost every week. But I'm still not sure if He is there. I'm in no way a devout Catholic and going to mass was only because I was forced to. But that little question always lingers "Is there a God?"
It really does fascinate me more than anything to watch people who are so certain and think what if they're wrong?
A couple of months ago I visited Knock (anyone ever heard of it-- Mayo, Ireland?) and mass was on so me and my family slipped in, for what seemed like the longest ceremony ever. As per usual, my mind wandered, not even listening to the priest. I watched a few people scattered across this triangular room, as they bowed, their face contorted with concentration on their prayers. As the hour droned on and we queued for the Bread, one of the "Devout"who was standing in front of me, dropped to her knees and closed her eyes. Her tongue lolled out as the priest placed the Eucharist in her mouth. She then bowed as if she were kissing the Priest's Feet. I was a bit shocked. I am somewhat septic about the angel coming to Mary and her being a virgin and having a child. But the rising from the dead totally bewilders me. That's not possible is it? Was he like a zombie?
anyway I'm totally baffled. As for other religions like Jews, Muslims and Buddhists, I have no idea what they are about.
Possibly in another few years I might be taking this all back and insisting it's all real or maybe I'll have gone to science and become Atheist. I go to a Catholic school but there's a mixture of religions amongst us. With all these scandals including the one from a century ago, paying to go to heaven, It's a bit off putting. Though I would like to believe there are angels out there. Not the type form Becca Fitzpatrick's Hush Hush ( Well I wouldn't mind a certain Patch out there...) but guardian angels..
Another reason I'm a bit cynical is why does everyione refer to God as He? A female is very much able to be a God.
What's your view on all this???

Thursday

THE RESULTS ARE IN!

Well, not entirely. There is still a day left to vote but I don't think if some more people vote that it's going to waver the results. And a surprising result as well.
Award got 2 votes (THANK GOD!)
Debate got 5 votes (only that much?)
Party got 6 votes (aww  I really wanted a party!)
And the winner is COMPETITION!
Honestly I hadn't expected to get a whopping 13 votes for the competition, seeing as there are so many happening right now.

Okay so this comp is going to be a writing comp. It can be a narrative or short story or essay style or whatever just along as you use words. It must be more than 400 words and cannot exceed 4000. And anyone who breaks this rule shall be disqualified! MWAHAHAHA!

The first catch is you must use these three words anywhere in your story.
~green
~whortleberry
~mysterious

And the second catch is you have to create a cover for this short story/ essay....
You can
~draw it and take a picture/scan
~photograph something relevant
~make it out of computer art

Prizes yet to be determined- shall be sent via post
Closing date 20th of October 2012
Please email it

And a little advice before I leave ye to start writing:
Write because something excites you or agitates you - write with passion and feeling

Extremely LOUD & Incredibly CLOSE

This is a post mainly about a review, based on today's date; 9-11-12. Or for those of you (like me) who write it 11-9-12. Either way it's probably one of the worlds most famous disaster.
On this day 11 years ago, two planes were intentionally piloted into the north and south world trade centre in New York.
Almost 3000 people were killed.
The film I am reviewing is about the 9/11, "Extremely loud and incredibly close".

The story unfolds from inside the mind of Oskar Schnell, an inventive eleven year old New Yorker whose discovery of a key in the belongings of his father, who died in the twin towers, sets him off on an urgent search for the lock it opens. As Oskars quest takes him across the city, he encounters an eclectic assortment of people with their own stories to tell, who also help uncover links to his father, preserving a connection to the man who helped Oskar confront his fears about the noisy, dangerous world around him.

Despite what a lot of people say about this film, I found it very moving, a stunning tale.
In memory of the lives lost today 11 years ago.

What's Dirtier (a) your PHONE (b) TOILET seat?

Who guessed (a)? Nope it's (b). In fact you may be surprised to know that phones carry a WHOPPING 10 times more bacteria than toilet seats! Just think of how many times we, as teens, touch and use your phone, or flick through our friend's latest "pics" of them posing with a perfectly manicured finger pushed into their make-up caked cheek, wearing a nonchalant expression.
Now think of that as placing your hand on the toilet seat but ten times worse!
I hate to think of how much bacteria is sitting right now on this laptop!!!
Maybe your thinking there couldn't possibly be that much more bacteria on a phone! Well it's a fact. Opening a door with the handle then taking out your phone to check for messages, then going to the bathroom and washing your hands. Take your phone back out and then once again the bacteria is all over your fingertips again! It's a VISCOUS cycle!
Or else for instance, your sister hollers to you "AUNTIE'S ON THE PHONE!" you take the phone, right out of her hands, place it up to your ear with your mouth just centimetres away, breathing in all the germs from people who used it prior.
One man actually contracted a disease from handling a phone. He stole it from an isolation ward in Uganda near the site of a recent Ebola outbreak. He shortly returned to the same hospital confessing everything. In the meantime, though, the owner of the killer phone had passed.
You see the reason for phones having more bacteria than a toilet is not because they're handled too much (well that too) but because toilets are cleaned a lot more frequent. We tend to associate the bathroom with germs and therefore do our best to remove such organisms.
Now I ask you: "When was the last time you cleaned your phone?"

The Adorkable Brownies

I apologise for the lack of posts and their quality but I have an excuse. I'm back to school!
I was originally going to give a study guide along with tips but seeing as I am no good at studying my advice would not be helpful. I'll leave that post to Nicola
Don't they look yummy.
(not my picture)
(I know it doesn't matter if I used a disclaimed note or not if I get sued.. but hopefully I won't end up in court at the tender age of 16.)

So now I've changed this post into a recipe.
IIf anyone remembers "my sister's birthday post", you would have seen a picture of the brownies I made and a note telling you recipe coming soon.
Well here it is.

I found this recipe at The Adorkable Blog. The author, Sarra Manning, wrote a book "Adorkable"  where the main character owns a blog. And that link is to it. It's from the perspective of Jeanne Smith but actually written by Sarra Manning.

200g dark chocolate (70% cocoa solids)
80g unsalted butter, room temperature
200g caster sugar
110g plain flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 pinch salt
I level teaspoon of baking powder
3 eggs
50g roughly chopped milk chocolate
50g roughly chopped white chocolate
Table spoon of milk

I'm getting tired of typing now so if you want the recipe click here!
I dork, therefore I am
